While his captors recorded him, Denton blinked the word “T-0-R-T-U-R-E” in Morse code, providing the first confirmation that American POWs were being t0rtured. He endured nearly eight years of captivity, spending 48 months in solitary confinement. Released in February 1973, Denton later a senator, serving from 1981 to 1987. He passed in 2014 at age
